Kelsey BaileyKelsey Bailey '11

  • President, College of IST Alumni Society


Kelsey is a 2011 graduate and currently works as a supply chain IT consultant for MEBC, Inc. She graduated with a B.S. in Information Sciences and technology, a B.A. in Political Science, and a minor in IST in Telecommunications. While at Penn State, she was happy to serve on the executive committee of WIST (Women in IST) and participate in Phi Beta Kappa, the IST Honors Society, IST THON, the Information Assurance club, and the Political Science Honors Society. In her down time, Kelsey enjoys rooting for the Phillies and Eagles, hiking, reading, visiting her nieces and nephew, and planning exotic vacations.

Kelsey is excited to serve as the Alumni Board's president and looks forward to facilitating the engagement of IST alumni by connecting them to their college and university community.

Russell Brick '12


Russell is a 2012 graduate of Penn State's College of IST where he earned his B.S. in Security and Risk Analysis - Cybersecurity option. He is now a manager with PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in their Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice based in Philadelphia, PA. Before attending Penn State, Russell served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps.

Russell has experience in security penetration testing and security assessments including social engineering testing. He has conducted physical security assessments, incident response exercises, PCI DSS assessments, and implementations of large-scale security platforms. He has provided a wide array of advisory services for clients across various industries including Consumer Products and Services, Healthcare, and Financial Services.

During his time at Penn State, Russell was involved in many veteran initiatives as well as being a member of the Center for Network-Centric Cognition and Information Fusion (NC2IF) where he helped a professor perform various red cell activities to help improve the security posture of many Penn State facilities.

Kelsey Karpinski '16


Kelsey is a 2016 graduate and currently is a Solution Architect for Atos SE working on the North American Siemens account. She graduated with her B.S. in Security and Risk Analysis with a minor in IST and a certification of recognition in Information Assurance and Cyber-Defense from the Altoona College. She also holds a Master’s in Information Systems from the Minot State University.

Kelsey lives in the State College area and frequently volunteers at Hintz Family Alumni Center as Penn State. In her down time, Kelsey enjoys cheering for PSU football, walking, reading, and photography.

Kelsey is eager to work with the Alumni Board and help give back to the college and University community.

Scott Lyons '05


Scott is a visionary in the information security industry. With over 18 years in the industry, he has worked for both government and commercial entities, covering almost every security position there is. He wrote the vulnerability and incident response playbooks/manuals for multiple government agencies and commercial entities. As such, he is familiar with the compliance requirements for high-end commercial and government clients, and is adaptable to meet environmental requirements anywhere. Scott has successfully repelled hostile incursions by hacktivists against broadcast media corporations. He has also led architecture reviews under tight deadlines and constraints, successfully managing the rollout and replacement of components and systems related to network security, across the globe.

Scott is heavily involved in the information security community. He is a staff member at Derbycon, DEFCON, BSidesLV, BSidesDE, Shmoocon, and several other conferences. His duties range from Security, to garnering Sponsorships, to leading teams of people through stressful and difficult situations. As a well-known member of the community, he has access to a large number and variety of people and new technologies. Scott has spoken at multiple conferences on business and technical topics and also, is the proud owner of multiple patents.

Scott is currently the CEO of Red Lion, LLC.

Josh Miller '05


A central PA native, Josh graduated from IST in 2005 after attending both Penn State Altoona and University Park. Since that time he has worked in defense, health care, higher ed, and technology, where he currently work as a Product Technologist for Dell Technologies. Josh is also an adjunct professor for IST and an IST Volunteer. Josh feels that it is our duty as IST alumni to share our knowledge and experience with students to help prepare them for a successful transition to industry.

Steve Ney '10


Steve is a 2010 IST graduate from the Penn State World Campus. Steve lives in central Pennsylvania with his wife and three kids and works in health insurance informatics. Prior to his position in informatics, Steve worked in healthcare as an IT technical analyst and in research for Orthopaedics and Pediatric Oncology.

During his academic pursuit in IST, Steve attended the World Campus as an adult learner while also working full time and caring for his family. He was able to earn several scholarships and grants for academic excellence through a strong work ethic. He hopes to bring his academic and work experiences to help engage and expand the efforts of students and alumni.

As a member of the IST Alumni Society and Penn State Alumni Association, Steve sees great hope in having an opportunity to meet and work alongside wonderful people and being able to expand the awareness of the impact that information sciences has in today’s world. He also believes that with technology, science, and passion, the tremendous potential for impactful environmental and humanitarian solutions are out there waiting to be discovered.

Mark PobleteMark Poblete '07

Mark, a 2007 graduate of the College of IST, is a manager with Capital One's Corporate Audit Services department. Based in Fairfax County, Virginia, he delivers internal audits of information system controls and processes across the bank’s lines of business to support regulatory compliance requirements and operational effectiveness priorities. Additionally, Mark leads the department’s campus recruiting efforts at Penn State and is the project manager for a series initiatives designed to raise the digital fluency of associates throughout the department.

As an undergraduate at Penn State, Mark was a four-year member of the Penn State University Marching Blue Band, a three-year member of the University-wide Homecoming Overall Committee (including serving as the Overall Chairperson in 2006), and student director of IST’s Student e-Portfolio Initiative. Mark is currently continuing his Penn State education as a graduate student in the College of IST's nationally recognized Master of Professional Studies in Information Sciences (Cybersecurity and Information Assurance) program, offered through the Penn State World Campus.

In addition to his role as Immediate Past President of the IST Alumni Society, Mark is an appointed representative to the Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Council, where he serves as Vice-Chair of the Membership committee as well as a member of the Young Alumni and Student Engagement committee. In addition, Mark co-chairs the Homecoming committee for the Penn State Alumni Blue Band Association Affiliate Program Group and is an active alumni volunteer with the Undergraduate Admissions Office in the metropolitan Washington, DC, region.

Corbin RenoCorbin Reno '15

Corbin is a 2015 graduate of the College of IST, holding his M.S. in Information Sciences and Technology with a graduate minor in Computational Science and Engineering. He also holds a B.S. in Finance from the Smeal College of Business and a B.S. in Information Sciences and Technology. After graduation, Corbin joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as a Management Consultant in their Analytics practice, working to solve clients’ complex business problems through the use of data science and statistics. He specializes in the biopharmaceutical industry, and has experience in marketing analytics and R&D strategy and operations. Corbin actively volunteers in PwC’s recruitment efforts at Penn State, including both recruitment at Smeal and in STEM fields across the university.

While at Penn State, Corbin was an active student leader, serving as THON Communications Director, Homecoming Technology Director, Lion Ambassador, and student representative on the HUB-Robeson Center Advisory Board. As an alumnus, Corbin continues to be engaged as the Alumni Events Director for the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG), and as a Social Media Manager for the New York City Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Luke Simonetti '07


Luke is a 2007 graduate IST. Luke currently lives in State College with his wife and four children. He is a Senior Director for Gartner, Inc.and leads the Global Security and Risk Management Consulting practice for the North America commercial industry segments. Luke regularly serves an executive advisor his clients' leadership and Boards of Directors and is an experienced security Subject Matter Expert (SME), with deep levels of experience in security governance, threat intelligence and modeling, network security, application security, information protection, business-IT integration, security operations, process improvement, and risk management.

Prior to joining Gartner, Luke was a principal consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton where he was responsible for managing the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Cyber Security Operations and Response Center which included managing a team responsible for incident detection, response, and mitigation for multiple Drug Enforcement Administration programs, as well as security engineering development.

During his time at Penn State, Luke was a Penn State Cheerleader for three years and actively supports the teams as an alumnus. He had volunteered as one of the mentors for the IST 390 course and plans to continue volunteering for the IST program to help students and alumni.

Andrew Weinert '09


Andrew is a 2009 graduate from Penn State. He is currently a member of the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Systems Group in the Homeland Protection and Air Traffic Control Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. In recent years, he has worked with public safety and academia,  including Penn State, on programs to integrate drones into the National Airspace System and enable communication in disconnected and latent environments.

Andrew is currently considered one of the technical leaders in support of the Federal Unmanned Aircraft Systems Executive Committee (UAS EXCOM) and the federal government’s drone efforts. Since 2011, in addition to his drone work, he has served as technical lead on an MIT and Penn State collaboration to develop smart information communication systems for first responders. This collaboration has tested equipment at Beaver Stadium and Heinz Field during football games. As part of these efforts, Andrew is a significant contributor to the research and development roadmap for the upcoming nationwide FirstNet Public Safety LTE network.



The IST Alumni Spotlight is to showcase and recognize outstanding IST alumni for their success as leaders in their professional field and for the impact they have had and will continue to have on society and their profession on a monthly basis.
