Experience Excellence in Education and Research

Our students and faculty conduct millions of dollars in funded research each year in areas such as web technologies, extreme events systems and response, the global use of technology, collaborative work by distributed teams, and innovations in the culture of work and education. Undergraduates can start as early as freshman year, and the graduate student experience culminates in cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research. Student research is celebrated in public research events, including the annual Graduate Research Exhibition and The Undergraduate Exhibition. Students also present their research posters and papers at a wide variety of academic and professional association conferences.

IST also benefits from the overarching research infrastructure and support of Penn State, a research university that conducts more than $750 million in research annually.

Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate ResearchUndergraduate students are encouraged to participate in the exciting research going on in the College of IST. Research experience is a great resume builder and an excellent way to extend learning outside of the classroom.

Graduate Research

Graduate ResearchOur faculty and graduate students represent the best Penn State has to offer. IST graduate students participate in and win awards at international conferences and are awarded national research fellowships.
