Professional Planning Process

You are here

The IST Office of Career Solutions & Corporate Engagement is here to help you maximize your career planning opportunities prior to graduation. The following steps will help you navigate this process. If you have any questions, please contact us at

What jobs are our students doing after graduation?

The information linked here is a sample list of job titles as earned by some of our most recent graduates.  While this is not a complete list of possibilities, it does give you an idea of what careers you can pursue with your degree.  These titles are the most frequent answers submitted on our recent post-graduation survey.

Whether it’s through an internet search, reviewing a specific company’s career page, or just browsing LinkedIn to network, we encourage you to use this information to learn more about career opportunities available to you after earning your degree.

Procedures for Individual Appointments

Our office offers individualized career coaching and planning sessions for all IST (UP) students who need assistance with their post-graduation preparation.

  • Schedule an appointment online by clicking here or contact the Office of Career Solutions & Corporate Engagement at or by phone at 814-865-4509 to request a meeting time.
  • Bring an updated, printed copy of your résumé to your meeting.
  • Please Note: If you need to cancel your appointment, contact 814-865-4509 as early as possible so that your reserved time slot can be opened up to other students needing assistance.

Recommendations for Student Attendance at Corporate Information/Interview Sessions

Corporate information sessions are an important and effective way to develop your career network and potentially be invited for a professional interview. We strongly recommend you follow these guidelines to maximize your chances for success:

  • Always dress professionally. At the minimum, this means business casual clothing. However, more formal attire may be appropriate based upon the dress code of the company. Remember, your appearance is a reflection of your personal brand and professional image is very important when interfacing with companies.
  • Make sure you are on time to all information and interview sessions. Being late for these events can give a prospective employer the impression that you have difficulty managing your time. If you are going to miss an appointment, be proactive in notifying the employer in advance of your scheduled meeting.
  • Bring at least three printed copies of your résumé and separate list of references to offer to company representatives.

IST Post-graduation Survey Procedures

The IST Post-graduation Survey is a confidential and systemized methodology for collecting valuable employment data. This information is highly beneficial for students who are engaging in the job search process and those who are negotiating a starting salary. It is also valuable to the college and to the university as a whole.  We ask that every IST student complete the survey prior to graduation, preferably after they have accepted an offer of employment or entrance to graduate school.

Close to graduation, you will be receiving a request to take the Post-graduation Survey from the Office of Career Solutions team.  We would greatly appreciate your cooperation!
