IST Diplomats
IST Diplomats are a distinguished group of student ambassadors who represent the college across a variety of platforms and events. With a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences, Diplomats serve as the voice of the college, offering insights into both the academic programs and the student experience within IST.
As key members of IST’s engagement strategy, Diplomats collaborate closely with staff, alumni, employers, and prospective students to ensure that each visitor, student, or industry partner feels connected to the college’s mission. They actively promote the college’s wide range of academic disciplines, career development resources, and student engagement opportunities, building strong relationships within the Penn State community and beyond.
IST Diplomats take on several important roles, including facilitating student panels, guiding prospective students and their families on tours, representing IST at major college events, and providing crucial support at conferences and networking sessions. They also connect with employers, engage with alumni and donors, and participate in college initiatives aimed at enhancing student success. Through their unique stories and experiences, Diplomats bring a personal touch to every interaction, helping others understand what makes the College of ISTa dynamic and inclusive place to learn, grow, and thrive.
As ambassadors, IST Diplomats not only promote the college but also grow their own leadership, communication, and networking skills. Preparing them to succeed in their future careers while making a lasting impact on the IST community.
Becoming an IST Diplomat
Applications to become an IST Diplomat open each fall and spring semester, offering students an exciting opportunity to represent the College of IST. As part of the application process, you’ll submit a creative, 90-second video explaining why you want to be an IST Diplomat. This is your chance to showcase your personality and passion for the college, so feel free to get as creative as you’d like!
To ensure that all Diplomats are fully equipped for their roles, selected students must be available on Tuesdays from 1:35–2:50 p.m. for the IST Diplomat Training Course. This course is designed to enhance your leadership skills through hands-on activities, self-reflection, and practical training. You’ll not only learn the ins and outs of representing IST, but also develop valuable skills that will benefit you as a student leader and prepare you for success in your future career after Penn State.
