ROTC Internship Guidelines

Junior-to-Senior Programs such as Army and Air Force Field Training, Navy Summer Cruise, USMC Basic School, Platoon Leaders Class, and other full-summer programs often meet the required minimum number of hours and typically include some focus on the use of information systems, security and risk topics, and cybersecurity in the workplace topics.

For summer training programs that are shorter in length, an on-campus training/leadership element can be incorporated to meet the internship requirement. Senior students combine the on-campus leadership element, supervised by a member of the ROTC Faculty/Cadre, with their summer tour to meet the required number of hours.

This option is only available to ROTC students in their senior year of academic classes.

ROTC students who intend to enlist fulltime in the armed forces after graduation can follow the steps below to fulfill their internship requirement:

• Meet with an IST career coach by Sept. 30 to articulate your post-graduation goals.
• Be senior class standing (at least 7th or 8th semester standing).
• Submit a written request within the first month of returning to campus after their major summer training event.
  • With this request, you must supply official documentation of the completion of your summer training, which may have taken place in the summer between either their sophomore and junior years or the summer between your junior and senior years.
• Count both summer training hours and on-campus leadership duty hours to earn your required hours of work-related experience.
• Enroll in IST 495 during the fall semester of your 4th year (following summer training) and complete all deliverables as assigned in the course.
