UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Shomir Wilson, associate professor in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) received the Best Teaching Material Award from the Sixth Workshop on Teaching NLP. The workshop was co-located with the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) on Aug. 15 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wilson responded to the workshop’s call for papers that discussed pedagogical aspects of natural language processing (NLP). His award-winning submission, "Documenting the Unwritten Curriculum of Student Research," was the first publication to come from his advice pages.
During his time in Bangkok, Wilson also gave the PrivateNLP workshop keynote address, presented at two workshop poster sessions, and participated in an artificial intelligence discussion panel.
