Inclusion and Diversity Engagement

You are here

The Office of Inclusion and Diversity Engagement strives to create a welcoming environment that promotes and values diversity and inclusion in order to recruit and retain students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented groups, including women. Inclusion and Diversity Engagement supports the college in interweaving diversity and inclusion into the infrastructure of daily operations and every aspect of our collegial practices. Diversity and inclusion is a critical component of the educational and professional experience as it enhances learning, creativity, and the practice of information sciences and technology.

Interdisciplinary by nature, IST has faculty from many fields, each pursuing research and outreach in a multitude of creative and innovative ways. The college recognizes both demographic and intellectual diversity which creates a synergy of different cultures, characteristics and ways of viewing the world to provide our students with a rich experience.

The Office of Inclusion and Diversity Engagement is housed in the same suite as Recruiting, Advising and Career Solutions to further collaboration amongst the offices as students present with various needs and issues. Inclusion and Diversty Engagement works closely with Grad Programs and the Office of Graduate Educational Equity to serve our growing population of graduate students and ensure they are given opportunities for professional development. Inclusion and Diversity Engagement supports undergraduate and graduate students with the submission of scholarship and fellowship nominations, recommending students for a few select scholarships and supports undergraduate research opportunities. The Multicultural Resource Center and Educational Equity partnered with students to create this video exploring more of the resources available to students.
