UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — "American Strength in AI Depends on International Students," an op-ed by Associate Professor https://ist.psu.edu/directory/..., appeared today in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"In industry, just as in academic research, the U.S. gained its strength in AI through the work of immigrants... Once here, international students should be welcomed, not intimidated or shunned. Our economy depends on innovations from these students' work, and our national security relies on the technological advances they contribute to. If AI is a geopolitical competition, the U.S. should further expand on, not contract, its historically successful strategy: admit the world's best talent to study here, share our best values with them and then encourage them to stay."

This follows "Students Are Unsung Heros of University Research, and Federal Funding Cuts Hurt Them Most," an op-ed Wilson wrote earlier this year for the Pennsylvania Capital-Star about how federal research funding supports students.
