Involvement Week

Of the nearly 1,000 student organizations across Penn State, some are specifically focused on the education, experiences, and community of IST students. This semester’s IST Involvement Week is the time to meet the academic service offices that support your Penn State experience and the leaders of IST student organizations to learn more about the opportunities in the college.

Select academic service offices and IST student organizations will each be present on two different days during the extended week to reach students with different schedules. You can find a schedule of their appearances and links to more about all of our academic services, IST student organizations, and a sign-up sheet to be added to their mailing lists.

Career Solutions and Corporate Engagement

The Office of Career Solutions and Corporate Engagement offers resources, programs, and services to help IST students reach their ultimate career goals. Team members help students by answering questions, providing professional guidance, and helping them overcome challenges that are encountered in the internship and full-time job search. Students can access a variety of professional development services, including assistance with resume writing, interview preparation, and professional networking.

Inclusion and Diversity Engagement

The Office of Inclusion and Diversity Engagement (OIDE) works to ensure the college’s understanding of the issues related to maintaining a diverse and inclusive community. In addition to creating and maintaining a welcoming and equitable climate for the IST community, one of the team's core functions is to develop strategies that recruit, engage and retain undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented backgrounds, including women. The team's goal is to support these individuals in their academic and professional endeavors and pave the way for future success.

Learning Enhancement

The Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment provides a variety of services to help students make progress toward their academic goals. Their goal is to engage students as active, informed life-long learners who will lead in solving problems, which they do by providing learning enrichment and support for undergraduate students, including tutoring, learning assistants, and student disability testing rooms, among other initiatives.

The Office of Student Engagement helps students take advantage of meaningful opportunities when they arrive on campus. Team members help current students enhance their education through co-curricular and experiential opportunities, including participation in student organizations, education abroad, undergraduate research, and the college’s Special Living Option.

The team's goal is to help students become self-directed learners and decision-makers as well as leaders in the IST and Penn State communities. IST students are assigned to an academic adviser when they enter the college.

CODEvelop

CODEvelop provides students with a consolidated platform to get involved with different programming opportunities on campus, in addition to providing free and fun skill-building for both advanced coders and those that have no prior experience. CODEvelope also provides members with an opportunity to share their coding knowledge with younger students in the community who are interested in STEM, with an emphasis on students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Competitive Cyber Security Organization (CCSO)

CCSO instructs current cybersecurity methods and practices and facilitates an informative environment where students from all educational levels and backgrounds can master safe computing practices. CCSO hosts trips to cybersecurity conferences and competitions locally and nationally where members can practice what they have learned. Members are not required to attend these competitions, but they are encouraged to continue learning.

Cyber Certifications Club

The Cyber Certifications Club provides opportunities for students to earn Security Plus, CCNA, and other valuable certifications by facilitating pre-test education and testing resources to its members. These certifications enhance the academic degrees earned as a Penn State student.

Developer Student Club

Developer student club is dedicated to exploring software, programming, and the cloud. Members build their professional network, get access to Google developer resources, and work together to build solutions for local problems in a peer-to-peer learning environment.

Emerging Technology (EmTech)

Join other creative students to create smart home technology with Raspberry Pi and other technical devices. As one of the College of IST’s newest student organizations, you can help us build the foundation for successful programs and initiatives.

IST Consulting Group

The IST Consulting Group focuses on the real life of consultants that goes beyond the classroom experience. Students with an interest in the consulting field get together to work on projects within the community and learn from current consultants about what life is like in the industry.

National Security Club

The National Security Club provides professional development and career readiness information regarding Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies through recruiters, professional speakers, and other representatives of various agencies and backgrounds.

Nittany Data Labs

Nittany Data Labs provides students with education, exposure, and experience in data sciences. Offering a comprehensive training program to teach and provide the tools and framework for students interested in better understanding data science, both in the fundamentals and in state-of-the-art techniques. After completing the internal training program, the club shifts to providing real corporate and research projects for students to test their skills. By building a community around data science, we hope to grow the field here at Penn State.

Red Cell Analytics Lab

Red Cell Analytics Lab promotes the research, practice, and application of structured analytics, critical thinking, and visual analytics. By collaborating with University and external partners, real-world problems are brought into the hands of students to enhance analytic output.

User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA) Penn State Chapter

UXPA connects students to the leading international professional association through local educational, professional, and practical opportunities including project management, design, development, and other user experience practices.

Gamma Tau Phi

Recognizes and encourages scholarship, leadership, and service among students enrolled in the College of IST. The honor society develops skilled, motivated, and ethical future leaders in the field of information technology. Students with high academic merits have the opportunity to network and attend special events together.

IST Benefiting THON

IST Benefiting THON brings the IST community together to support the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) and the Four Diamonds Fund. Through close partnerships among students, alumni, faculty, and staff in the College, the organization will inspire hope by providing emotional and financial support.

IST Living Learning Community

The IST Special Living Option allows students in the college to live among their peers with similar interests. By immersing College of IST students in an environment that facilitates social and academic interaction, students can assist each other with school work and build lasting friendships.

IST Student Government

The IST Student Government is the official voice of the student body to all faculty, staff, and administration. Students are given the opportunity to express feedback and discuss all matters surrounding any aspect of the IST experience and the general student population. The IST Student Government serves to build a culture of learning and leadership that is expected of tomorrow’s leaders.

Women in IST (WIST)

WIST promotes a sense of unity among the women of IST by offering networking opportunities, career resources, community and academic presentations, and leadership training. Supporting the recruitment and sustained interest of women in the College of IST, ensuring that female students and faculty members are equally and actively involved in all aspects of education and in the rapidly changing world of technology.

Women, International, Racial, Ethnic Diversity Intercultural Network (WIRED IN)

WIRED IN unites underrepresented students in the College of IST, provides a supportive network that fosters an inclusive environment, and offers professional development opportunities for the success of the student body.

IST Diplomats

IST Diplomats provide students the opportunity to develop leadership techniques and professional communication skills through practical applications while providing the college with a prepared and diverse staff of selected students to share the story of their unique Penn State journey.

IST Learning Assistants

Learning Assistants are motivated undergraduate students who serve as learning coaches and mentors for students, while supporting instructors with teaching-related tasks. LAs are assigned to a particular course, and they work closely with instructors to provide challenging and meaningful learning experiences for enrolled students.

IST Peer Tutors

Peer Tutors serve as a centralized academic support resource for students in the College of IST. The organization is a student-managed program funded by the college that provides one-on-one coaching to help students practice and reinforce concepts from the IST curriculum.
