Upcoming Career Events

Researching Companies

Each Wednesday we highlight a new featured employer to help companies connect with students in an informal, low-stress environment. Branding this event as part of a series ensures that students will know about your event and expect to see new highlighted organizations each week.

Employers host presentations, typically in the evening, to offer more information on their company, culture, open job and internship opportunities, and more. At the end of the session, there is generally time for networking and questions with the organization's representatives. Every company's session is different, so be sure to read their descriptions in Nittany Lion Careers. You can find information sessions under the Events tab.

College of IST students can participate in off-campus day trips to the offices of leading technology companies. While most experiences are open to all IST students, some trips have specific eligibility requirements. Past trips have met with leaders—many of them Penn State and IST alumni--at LinkedIn, Cvent, PwC, Bank of America, EY, and more.

Students should watch their Penn State emails for more information about these opportunities and application details.

Executives from companies and government agencies occasionally have the opportunity to guest lecture in a number of our courses. Guest lectures offer students a chance to learn about the curriculum topic from an industry professional and provide unique insight into what it's like to work in that field.

Getting Career Ready

IST hosts two career fairs every year—the fall and spring Internship and Career Fairs. Employers attending these career fairs are specifically targeting IST students for internship and job opportunities and offer opportunities in a variety of industries. Learn more about upcoming fairs and the companies attending.

In addition to having an IST career coach review your resume, have your resume reviewed by a recruiter or human resources professional from one of the many organizations who are interested in hiring IST students. Also, watch out for opportunities and events to have your resume reviewed by an IST Diplomat or peer career mentor.

Workshops are often presented by recruiters to teach students about a variety of career related topics. Past topics have covered:

  • Dining Etiquette
  • Interview Preparation and Resume Tips
  • Building a Successful Resume and Nailing Your Interview
  • Social Media Presence
  • Dressing for Success
  • Professional Writing Etiquette
  • How to Navigate a Career Fair
  • What does it mean to work in ______(industry)?
  • Steps to landing the perfect internship

Whether it's the day after a career fair or during on-campus interview season, employers host first round interviews at University Park for internships, co-ops, and full-time positions. Learn more about the interview process and how to prepare so you can land the job.

Building Experience

Every undergraduate IST student is required to complete at least one internship for credit in order to graduate. Many students complete multiple internships before leaving campus, and most receive a job offer from one of their internship providers. Through internships, you can test-drive a particular set of job duties, a company, or a career path to see if it truly suit your interests and skills.

Review the resources available to help you identify and secure a meaningful internship experience.

Through partnerships with corporations and agencies, students are able to gain hands-on experience with a real-world problems and present a suggested solution to executives at the end of the course.

Compete with fellow Penn State and IST students on a topic or challenge presented by a company. Check out Nittany Lion Careers and watch your email for unique opportunities to showcase your talents.
