Course Topic: Mining Large and Complex Data
The course covers emerging techniques for data mining and their application to various types of large-scale data sets. This course introduces basic algorithms in association rule mining, classification and clustering and then covers topics on mining various complex data including mining patterns from sequence data, graph data, high-dimensional data, biological data, bi-clustering, social media and complex network analysis.
A term project will be developed by each student to apply data mining algorithms to a multi-dimensional data set. Classes will include lectures, paper discussions, and project presentations. Paper discussions will allow students to discuss state-of-the-art literature related to data mining. Project presentations will enable students to share and compare project ideas with each other and to receive feedback from the instructor.
