<p>In addition to requirements specific to IST, all applicants must satisfy the requirements of the <a style="font-weight: bold;" target="_blank" href="http://www.gradsch.psu.edu/prospective/">Penn State Graduate School</a>. <p><strong>Course Work <br /></strong>Because our program is multidisciplinary, individuals from nearly any discipline may be accepted. A master's degree in a related area is not necessary for admission but may be helpful in the successful completion of the degree. <br /></p>
<p>It is expected that students, regardless of their academic background, will have:</p>
<ul>
    <li>Computer languages: a minimum of 6 credits of course work in a computer language or languages or equivalent </li>
    <li>Information technology coursework or work experience that demonstrates a basic understanding of information technology beyond computer languages; for example, internet technologies, database systems, interface design, service-oriented architectures, artificial intelligence, or software engineering </li>
    <li>A basic competency in research methodology statistics: a minimum of 6 credits in undergraduate course work, graduate course work, or a combination of work at both levels </li>

										 <description><![CDATA[<div class="normal-no-click normal-O-no-click"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Entrance to Major Requirements</span><br /><br />Students must:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Have achieved at least third semester classification and not greater than fourth semester classification while pursuing a program of study appropriate for entry to the major. </li>
    <li>Have completed two of the following four courses with a grade of C or better in each: IST 110, IST 130, IST 210, and IST 220, along with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 prior and through the end of the semester in which the entrance-to-major procedure is carried out. </li>
    <li>Submit a proposal outlining a proposed course of study: </li>

    <li>Your proposal must be submitted for review by the end of the fall semester of your sophomore year. You will be notified of a decision by February 1. If your proposal is denied, you will not be eligible to pursue the ISTBA. </li>
    <li>If your proposal is approved, and you satisfy the above requirements, you must participate in the entrance-to-major process by indicating your preference in eLion. Students are notified by e-mail to confirm their major selection preferences. </li>
