Given annually, the award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates innovative teaching, commitment to student learning and creative interaction with students.
“Fred is a skillful coach in the classroom and an exceptional mentor,” said Jim Thomas, IST dean in presenting the award. “His special gift is an outstanding ability to create compelling learning situations that stretch the abilities of his students.”
Students also honored IST faculty and staff members with awards.
Gerry Santoro, assistant professor, was named 2004-2005 IST Faculty Member of the Year. In selecting Santoro, students noted Santoro’s dedication to teaching and leadership. Santoro also has been instrumental in helping the student-run Computer Networking Club.
The IST Staff Member of the Year was Stan Supon, assistant dean for undergraduate students. Supon “knows the educational system here inside and out and is always willing to listen and help out,” students said.
Ben Hellar received the 2004-2005 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Hellar, according to students, makes learning fun and goes the extra mile to make sure students understand concepts and materials presented.
