Hat trick: Penn State named a military friendly school for third year

Ranked #1 for online Information Sciences and Technology (IST) degree programs, Penn State’s College of IST offers a convenient and flexible delivery method for students in the military to obtain an IST degree.

G.I. Jobs magazine has designated Penn State a military friendly school for 2012. It is the third straight time the Pittsburgh-based publication has recognized the University's programs and services designed specifically to help active-duty military servicemembers and veterans pursue an education online through Penn State's World Campus.

To help the 8 million military servicemembers and veterans looking for an education, G.I. Jobs annually evaluates U.S. colleges and universities and selects those offering services helpful to these groups. The magazine first designated Penn State a military friendly school in 2010. The "2012 Guide to Military Friendly Schools" will be published in September, and a list of these institutions also will be available at www.MilitaryFriendlySchools.com online.

Among Penn State's initiatives for servicemembers and veterans are a dedicated Admissions and Advising Team, a military grant-in-aid that reduces tuition for undergraduate courses and programs, and military scholarships. The University also participates in the Veterans Administration Yellow Ribbon Program.

Recently, Penn State's portfolio of online IST degrees was ranked number 1 in the nation by The Best Colleges. With a convenient and flexible delivery method, these programs allow students to obtain an IST degree independent of location, age, or work situation.
