Alumni profile: David Chu, '03 IST
Information Sciences and Technology grads aren’t just on the East Coast. For this month’s IST alumni biographies section, we feature David Chu.
Chu, a December 2003 IST graduate, lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and is the founder of Spyder-Rentals.com, a company that rents an exotic specialty vehicle called a Can-Am Spyder. Before starting Spyder-Rentals.com in 2008, Chu worked at IBM for six years starting as a public sector IT consultant and then moving on to become an account executive for the System x server brand.
Chu is currently working with three other young entrepreneurs to produce a new social media game called “RockThePaper.com.” It’s a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to benefit certain charities and gives participants a chance to win a substantial amount of money. The game is € 1 (Euro) to play per game and will be available on phones purchased in specific countries with an executive contract with Nokia.
“To fellow Penn Staters,” Chu writers, “Anything is possible if you follow your passion in what you truly enjoy doing, especially if you fit a niche market. I highly encourage other Penn Staters to venture down the same path of becoming a bold, creative, and successful young entrepreneur!”
