EFI Donation Gives IST Students New Tools

by Margaret Hopkins

Electronics For Imaging, Inc., a Calif.-based technology company, has donated some of its core imaging equipment and software to the Penn State School of Information Sciences and Technology (IST). Students in IST 497D, IT Consulting and Project Management, are working with EFI's Web-enabled whiteboards and remote printing systems as part of an investigation into the infrastructure needed to support student teams as virtual consultants.

"This team will recommend the infrastructure, policies and procedures needed to support student consulting teams and interns who can work with companies and organizations outside our immediate geographic area," said Brian Cameron, senior technology architect and instructor in IST.

Virtual consulting projects and virtual internships benefit students by exposing them to the technologies they'll encounter in the workplace, Cameron said. The virtual partnerships also reflect current trends in the work world.

EFI provides imaging solutions for network printing with print servers, workflow software, digital whiteboards and mobile printing solutions. Fred Rosenzweig, president and Chief Operation Officer, is a Penn State alumnus (Class of 1978).
