Students, Staff, Faculty Honored at 2003 IST Spring Formal

Members of IST's faculty, staff, and student body were honored March 29 at the school's 2003 Spring Formal at the Nittany Lion Inn, University Park.

Founded in 2001, the formal has come to be known as the school's social event of the season and features dining and dancing as well as an awards program.

This year's featured speaker was Jeffrey T. Jacoby, program manager and six sigma champion for Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems. Winner of the 2003 George McMurtry Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award was David Mudgett, instructor in information sciences and technology. The award is named for the school's co-founder George McMurtry, associate dean emeritus for administration and planning of the College of Engineering, and professor emeritus of electrical engineering

Joseph Lambert, senior associate dean of IST, took the 2003 Innovation Award in recognition of his key role in the co-founding and ongoing development of the school.

Honored for leadership among IST's students were:

IST's Intern of the Year was Debra Schneiderman, who also received the president's award from J.M. Huber Corporation, the company for which she worked.

The Magazine of IST named Adam Zolyak as its staff member of the year. Cheri Simmers was recognized as member of the year by Women in IST. And, the IST House honored Anita Ambani for her special contributions.

Students Angela Liberto and Adam Freedgood were recognized as winners of graphic design contests held by the school. Liberto's design will appear on the invitation and program for the school's spring commencement at University Park, while Freedgood's design will be displayed on a banner at that May 17 event.

Serving as masters of ceremonies were student Dan Augustine and Dean James B. Thomas.

Sponsors for the 2003 IST Formal were Allstate Insurance Company, Ed Frymoyer, Don Haile, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Mellon, PNC, Raytheon, and Hal Wrigley.

Alison Murphy served as chair of the 2003 formal committee. Working with her were committee members Vim Veerappan, Jenna Hayden, Lindsey Scheib, Carly Friedman, Alison Wong, Adam Gerstberger, Matt Troutman, Eric Flanigan, and Laura Beck. Advising the committee were IST staff members Teresa Gift and Charlie DuBois.
