Cathy Pomanti, a Penn State alumna and senior vice president of BearingPoint, has joined the IST Advisory Board.
A 24-year veteran of the consulting firm, Pomanti is responsible for BearingPoint’s state and local government practice in North America. Her clients have included many of Pennsylvania’s state agencies including the departments of corrections, public welfare and transportation.
Pomanti began her career at BearingPoint in 1981 after graduating from Penn State with a B.S. degree in computer science. In her early years as a consultant with the company, Pomanti worked with such clients as Campbell’s Soup, Fidelity Bank and the City of Philadelphia.
Starting in 1988, she began working with several of the Commonwealth’s large-scale systems integration projects. Her expertise includes IT strategy, custom application development and package implementation.
Although new to the Advisory Board, Pomanti already is impressed with IST graduates.
“We have found IST graduates to be great resources because they have a good understanding of the business world and how information technology enables business processes,” Pomanti said. “Technical expertise is important, but understanding how it plays in the business world is equally important, and IST provides both,” Pomanti said.
With more than 16,000 employees, BearingPoint specializes in consulting, systems integration and managed services to large and small companies and government agencies.
The IST Advisory Board helps ensure the school’s programs of teaching, research and outreach are in tune with current and future trends in the information-technology market. Advisory board members also provide career opportunities for students through offering internships and curricular materials for class projects.
