IST seeks to fill five full-time, tenure-track positions for 2005-06. Candidates selected for on-campus interviews generally will come for two days, give a talk to faculty members and graduate students, and possibly be introduced to undergraduate students, said John Yen, professor in charge. The first on-site visitors could come as early as February.
In posting the positions, IST administrators and faculty members identified five needed areas of expertise and research interests. They are the following:
- User Information Behavior—the study of information searching and retrieval, knowledge management, and social informatics.
- Information and Assurance Security—computer and network forensics, security management, and trustworthy computing.
- Information Systems Integration—enterprise architecture, process and work analysis, knowledge management, and technology transfer.
- Health Informatics—medical databases, medical imaging, disparity issues around IT and health care, and mobile access to health information.
- Economics of Information—information markets, valuation of information, and software engineering/systems development economics.
