Charles Nwatu and Joshua Blackman no longer have to worry over interviewing for internships or applying for full-time positions.
The two IST students have won Information Assurance Scholarships through the federal Department of Defense which include summer internships and full-time positions after graduation. About 35 scholarships were awarded for 2004-05.
“I feel honored to be in this select group,” said Nwatu, a senior.
The scholarship, which includes tuition, books, and an annual stipend of $10,000, is only available to students attending schools designated as Centers of Academic Excellence (CAEs) in Information Assurance Education. To date, 59 universities have qualified as CAEs because they offer coursework in information assurance.
Nwatu and Blackman, a junior, are enrolled in IST’s Information Assurance track.
“With hacking going on every day and concerns about keeping our infrastructure safe, information assurance and cyber security are the future,” Blackman said.
