Henry Schacht, former chairman and CEO of Lucent Technologies, will discuss how technologies impact organizations Nov. 10 as part of the School of Information Sciences and Technology’s Distinguished Lecture Series.
His talk is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Cybertorium, Information Sciences and Technology Building.
Prior to joining Lucent, Schacht spent most of his career with Cummins Inc., a global corporation that designs, manufactures and services engines and related technologies, where he served as chairman and CEO. After retiring from Cummins in 1995, Schacht was named chairman and CEO of Lucent Technologies. He stepped down as CEO in 1997, staying on as chairman until 1998.
In 2000, Schacht returned to Lucent as chairman and CEO when the telecommunications innovator was struggling to meet sales and earnings targets. In February 2003, he resigned as chairman and became a senior adviser. He remains on the board as an outside member.
Schacht plans to discuss technology breakthroughs and the challenges they create for business organizations and societies.
Schacht and his wife also are benefactors to IST. The Schacht-Hintz Scholarship is available to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in IST who have achieved superior academic records and who are from New York City or northern New Jersey. The Schachts created the scholarship with Ed Hintz, former chair of the Penn State Board of Trustees, and his wife.
