The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, Pennsylvania invites applications for the inaugural position of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA). This position is a full-time academic administrator position that reports directly to the dean, and is part of the dean’s leadership team. The position requires the ability to serve as an adviser to College leaders and faculty on a broad range of faculty-related issues founded on best practices and University policy. Further, this position will represent the College in various University-wide administrative and topic-focused committees and will be the interface between the College and University on a wide range of issues. Success in this role will depend heavily on cooperation with a variety of university offices and on the ability to work collaboratively with others inside the College and across the University. Candidates should have a firm commitment to excellence, experience in college and university service, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, high ethical standards, and strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Although the position is a full-time administrative job, the ADFA will also be appointed as a member of the faculty of the College of Information Sciences and Technology commensurate with prior experience. 

The Dean seeks to fill this position with a current full-time tenure-line/tenured Penn State faculty member with a strong commitment to collaborative leadership for faculty affairs, experiences and career advancement. We are looking for an exceptional leader who has familiarity with Penn State policy interpretation and implementation, who is committed to faculty career advancement and mentoring of new faculty, and who has a passion for helping the College achieve higher levels of excellence and accomplishment across all areas of education, research, and service. 

A strong candidate will have: 

  • a deep understanding of the mission, goals, administration, organization and operation of a research-intensive university where interdisciplinary collaboration is highly encouraged, particularly as it pertains to faculty recruitment, development, promotion, retention and career advancement; 
  • a proven record of working collaboratively and respectfully across organizations to solve complex problems; 
  • proven success in conflict management and resolution; 
  • experience as an effective instructor of undergraduate and/or graduate courses; 
  • demonstrated leadership skills to serve as an adviser to college leaders and faculty on a broad range of faculty-related issues founded on best practices and University policy; 
  • a history of working productively with, and advocating for, staff; and the highest level of discretion and integrity given the sensitive nature of many of the responsibilities associated with this position. 

The ADFA is an integral part of the College of IST’s leadership team and will work collaboratively with the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, Professors in Charge, Human Resources, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, among others, as well as with the Dean’s Office staff. 

Education and Experience: 

Successful candidates must have a terminal degree and will be considered for a tenure-line faculty rank commensurate with their education and experience in accordance with AC21

This position is a full-time academic administrator position, reporting directly to the dean and is a member of the dean’s leadership team. The position requires an understanding of Penn State’s undergraduate academic administrative policies and procedures. The dean seeks to fill this position with a skilled leader who is committed to mentoring new faculty, and who is passionate about helping the College achieve higher levels of excellence and accomplishment across all areas of education, research, and service. This position will diplomatically represent the College in various University-wide administrative and topic-focused committees. Success in this role will rely heavily on partnership with a variety of university offices and on the ability to work collaboratively with others inside the College and across the University. Candidates should have a firm commitment to excellence, experience in college and university service, a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and belonging, high ethical standards, and strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Although the position is a full-time academic administrator, the ADUS will have an appointment (or joint appointment if already a faculty member in another University Park College or Penn State Campus) as a member of the faculty of the College of Information Sciences and Technology commensurate with prior experience. 

The successful candidate must have a PhD by the start date and be a current full-time Penn State employee. We seek exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success. A strong candidate will have experience as an effective instructor of undergraduate courses; evidence of effectiveness as an undergraduate adviser; evidence of leadership in curriculum evaluation, refinement, and development; experience in online delivery of courses; engagement in recruiting and developing instructors for online courses; and a proven record of successful collaboration with both tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty and administration across the college and university in support of an institutional vision. 

We particularly invite candidates whose experience connects to several current themes in our education mission: recent and ongoing rapid growth in both enrollments and new programs; pervasive technology-mediated innovation in course design, implementation, and evaluation; interdisciplinary content and connections across courses; and recruitment and support for a diverse student population. 

The ADUS will assume a broad range of responsibilities, including the following: 

  • Strengthen undergraduate programs by maintaining close ties with relevant University Offices and facilitating communication and collaboration across programs within the college and across colleges and campuses 
  • Coordinate systematic and regular assessment of college education programs and oversee development and implementation of curricular reforms; represent IST on committees, councils, and task forces addressing issues and policies in undergraduate studies; oversee processes for ensuring academic and research integrity for undergraduate students 
  • Maintain an appropriate personal record of teaching and research in relevant areas of expertise given administrative responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is seeking candidates for an Event Planning Assistant to join our team that supports all college events. This position will report directly to the Event Planner. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Plan, manage, assist in, and participate in planning and implementing college-wide events, seminars, symposiums, conferences, and special themed events, including Commencement. 
  • Select appropriate sites for events that meet both educational and budgetary goals. 
  • Meet with sales representatives; research, obtain quotes, purchase, and/or recommend equipment purchases. 
  • Gather and analyze information from various sources to make determinations, decisions, and recommendations for college events. 
  • Collaborate across the college and university to ensure best practices. 
  • Provide financial forms support to assigned budgets utilizing the university's financial system; maintain and/or monitor budgets. 
  • Perform in a lead support capacity; establish and assign priorities; ensure schedules are maintained and deadlines are met; develop processes and procedures for the department. 
  • Resolve issues with various students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Maintain office files, procedures, and manuals; recommend changes in policy and procedures. 
  • Maintain distribution lists and/or databases, verify and enter information. 
  • Maintain calendars and schedule/cancel appointments. 
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, prepare itineraries, and prepare and submit travel expense documents. 
  • Attend meetings; record, transcribe, and distribute meeting minutes. 
  • Act as liaison to internal and external contacts; answer inquiries and respond to and/or resolve a variety of issues. 
  • May design and maintain web pages and event signage. 
  • Inventory and order supplies.

Education and Experience: 

This position requires a High School Diploma/GED or Vocational Training/Degree or higher plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a high-functioning team. 
  • Experience with Adobe Workfront and Penn State Systems is desirable but not required. 
  • Special events planning and management experience are a plus. 

Additional Information: 

This position will require the successful completion of standard background checks.  

Due to the nature of the work, this position is primarily in-person on campus.

$38,300.00 - $55,500.00
